the three diaries Nile, Jr. kept during pre-flight up 'til the day before he crashed and they bear out your surmise that he was headed for a career similar to his grandfather Clarke's. In his diary he mentions Bob Hobbs, Loren Hickerson, Katie Smith (a grad. student at Iowa who lived in K.C. where Nile dated her once) and especially Merle McKay. Do you know where any of them are now? The girls didn't graduate from Iowa, so the alumni office merely have maiden names etc. (This gets to be a real detective-like role!) Please don't fret if you can't help with the people mentioned - I'm pursuing other avenues also to find them. Tho no luck. One person who has eluded even the Notre Dame Alumni Office is Frank Carideo. He sold his business in Cedar Rapids and I heard that he had gone to Mississippi. Where, I don't know. Any comments that will further illiminate Nile's character, personality & individuality are most welcome. Incidentally, did he have a Model "T" for a while? I also meant to ask you if you know my good friend Peter Narey (Judge Narey's son) who was at Iowa about your time. Ever sincerely, Derald Stump answered- 6-2-75
