UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF IOWA chambers of WILLIAM C STUART Chief Judge DES MOINES. IOWA 50309 January 5, 1983 Mr. Nile Kinnick, Sr. 423 South 89th Street Omaha, Nebraska 68114 Dear Mr. Kinnick: It was good to hear from you and learn that you are continuing in good health. I learned through Bob Hobbs that you had not too long ago taken a motor trip to Alaska. It is great that you have remained so active. I gave some thought to sending you a copy of the remarks that I made about Nile at the All State High School Football Banquet. As I was not sure of the condition of your health I did not do so. I see that your address remains the same, so I will net hesitate in the future if something comes to my attention. As I prepared my remarks, many vivid and pleasant memories returned to my mind. I was a little hesitant about making the speech as even after all these years, I am inclined to get emotional when I think about Nile. I sincerely believe that he would have been one of the real leaders in our government and we' certainly could use his good judgment, integrity and sensitivity at this time. I will be able to take senior status in about three and one-half years. I intend to assume a light workload at that time as my wife and I both enjoy traveling. It may be that we will be able to duplicate your trip. I wish you a Happy New Year and continued good health. Sincerely, Bill W. C. Stuart P.S.I am enclosing a copy of the rough draft of my remarks. The time was limited and I could have gone on and on about Nile.
