March March 1st after passing a cold wet night without getting but little sleep we fell in at daylight the rain still pouring down & marched to Painter Springs arived there 2. PM a distance of about 12 miles wet cold & hungry we went into camp I met a boy who said his mother was making bread for the soldiers he lived about 1 1/2 miles out I went home with him got my supper
