May our officers horses (which had been over the mountains) were brought to them they look very gallus again mounted on their fine steeds the line officers have to carry their blankets & dog tents the weather is very warm 8th marching & maneuvering around among the hills & in the woods nearly all day drove the enemy in to their fortifications recd news of Gen Grants defeating
