May 27th. about Sunrise the cannonading commences quite brisk hard fighting all day our Co loose 3 men wounded on the skirmish line one mortally & the others flesh wounds during the night they attacked our lines 3 times were repulsed our rations were due last night had nothing to eat all day drew rations about 10 oClock in the night, gain about 1 mile on the enemy
