Marengo Iowa Jan 14th, 1865 Saturday forenoon Dear Brother Jim I rec'd your letter of Dec 22nd yesterday & was very glad to hear from you again. & to hear that you are well. I earnestly hope that you may continue so, we are all quite well at present I have quite a bad cold in my head but nothing serious I guess. We are having very nice winter weather now a days there is not snow enough for sleighing & I hardly think we will have enough this winter, it is not so cold but what it thaws a little every day. We have been having meeting at our school house every night for 8 nights. Mr Preston
