Sheffield Jan 12th. 1863 Dear Doctor. Smith has left our house and gone west; his wife is liveing in the upper room of the Cleveland house on State Street we have recieved no pay of him. I tried to get him to make Mary and myself a pair of shoes which he promised to make but there was no such thing as geting them. They left evry thing very lose in the house I guess the house had better stood empty or let Pier stay for nothing. Sarah Gould has been sinking very rapidly since I last saw her. she cannot bear her wait on her feet her mouth is very sore she takes no nourishment except egg and milk on account of her mouth they want me to go out and see her dont know whether I can or not. The weddings have gone off about the rapidest in Conneaut Knight Carter has got Celinda Doty. Elvington Phillips and Charley Goldsmith have married Judd girls George Cleveland to Lydia Stafford. Lotty Phillips is very sick. Eliza Innes or Webster has diptherea. The roads are still to bad to move when it is froze it is to rough and and when it is not froze it is very muddy it usually commences to thaw with a rain. we have had a few fery snowy. days and a great deal of snow fell but when it was done there would be but a little on the ground, I guess we will not have any sleighing this winter. I wish we were all ready moved so that the children can go to school although I do not
