April 10th 1863 At Youngs point & Lower Landing South of Vicks Burgh, 3,Ms, those Saucy Gunboats Lying Still nearer to .V.Burgh We were at Milligans Bend Last night & I ate Supper at the quarters of R.M.Smith [C]Iowa had good tasting cistern water which I Preferred to coffee; had a Small corn cake & Butter Small peice of Ham, all of which, This Morning prove Salutary. My Strength This Morning Still on The Increase, I would prefer If I can Get a Clean place to Sleep Leaving This Hospital Boat; & try to furnish Myself with Such articles for food as My Stomach will Bear by joining with a mess already established; I, Should also be in a better position If I have to Remain To the Close of This Month to Secure My Money I Think I can Secure a Little fresh Cows milk which will be Such a Valuable Life Preserver in This Day of Extremity for Something that I can Eat Sufficient to Sustain Life - Ale is an article that. I have, needed & almost. Died from the privation while others were using it freeley who did not need it - Horrid to Contemplate Such management
