This memorandum is made for the purpose of perpetuating an agreement which has this day been concluded between the subscribing parties, each acting for their respective Companies. D.J. Townsend sells, and T.C. Durant buys one hundred box cars for Eight hundred and twenty four shares of the Stock in the first division of the Mississippi & Missouri Rail Road Company. The stock to be delivered on presentation at the office of the latter in the City of New York, of the shipping Receipts of the Union Express Company. D. J. Townsend also sells, and T.C. Durant also buys six passenger Coaches at Two thousand, two hundred & fifty dollars each. The Notes of the buyer and his associates are to be delivered on presentation of the receipt of the Union Express Company for the last named cars as fast as shipped, having ninety days to run, with the interest added Dated New York July [21?] 1857 [21st?] cars to be marked M. & M The above cars to be subject to the inspection & approval of A. Sweet Jr of Buffalo D. J Townsend Pres. Bo. Car Cy To be shipped to Henry [Farnum] Chicago for M Farnum & Durant
