This memorandum is made for the purpose of perpetuating an agreement which has this day been concluded between the subscribing parties, each acting for their respective companies D.J. Townsend sells and T.C. Durant buys One Hundred box cars for Seven Hundred dollars, also Fifty Cattle cars, for Seven Hundred dollars, also Fifty Platform cars for Six Hundred dollars, delivered at the car manufactory. The Box & Cattle Cars are to be delivered before the tenth day of October and the Platform cars are to be delivered before the first day of November next The Payments to be made as follows. "To Wit" One fourth part in Cash on the delivery of the Cars One fourth part in One Thousand Car Wheels at Fourteen 85/100 ----- dollars each delivered at Albany, N.Y. and -------in (60.) Sixty day. Paper with Interest from delivery and One half part in the Stock of the Mississippi & Missouri Rail Road at Eighty pr cent. to be delivered on presentation of the shipping Receipts of the Union Express Co The cars to be marked M & M and also to be subject to inspection and approval. To be Shipped to Henry Farnam Chicago for acct of Farnam & Durant. Dated New York Aug. 23. 1856 D.J Townsend Pt. Buffalo Car Comy. 50 Box & 50 cattle cars to be marked C. & R. I. R R. & the balance to be marked M. & M. R R the R I cars to be delivered first
