76 Center Ala Nov 23d 1865 Thursday It is very dull here now the people of this Section of Country have nearly all taken the Oath, and there is nothing to do now except keeping the Freedmen right & protecting them in their dealings with the planters. There is a general desire in all Large land owners to keep the Freedmen in ignorance of the real value of labor and the past Season the majority of Contractors gave nothing but food & Clothing, & the Disposition of the Planters is to Secure the negroes at the Same rate for next Season. There are a few honerable execeptions where good terms is offered the Negro
